Mario is back. This time, Nintendo has sent their heroic plumber to the soccer field in SUPER MARIO STRIKERS for the Game Cube. Players control Mario, Luigi, Peach, and other MARIO characters as they battle it out for the championship. Each team has a team captain (one of the major MARIO characters) and three assistants, who are either koopas, birdos, or other MARIO minions. The goal, of course, is to score goals just like in soccer. However, with Mario on the field, it’s not that simple. Much like MARIO KART took racing and gave it a twist weapons SUPER MARIO STRIKERS adds attacks to the game. Players can tackle members of the other teams, taking them down for a few precious seconds. Unlike real soccer, there are no red cards given out for these actions, so players are free to attack the opposition as much as they want. The captains of each team have the superstrike abilities. These abilities allow them to perform massive aerial kicks that can result in a goal worth two points. Each character’s superstrike move is different, and each can result in either a two point goal or a two point goal with the addition of slamming the goalie into the net. Scoring this type of goal requires the player to perfectly time a series of button presses.
SUPER MARIO STRIKERS is more than just another game with Mario. It’s a fun, entertaining soccer game that guarantees hours of exciting fun.
